Frequently asked questions
Do I need an internet connection?
No. All ingredients, pairings and images are inside the app. It works in a kitchen without signal too.
How do I quickly find what I’m looking for?
Tap Search and type an ingredient, flavour or dish. Use the chips and the filter sheet to narrow the list by season, category, flavour, mouthfeel and cooking method.
What does Combine show?
Pick two or three ingredients. You’ll see whether they pair directly and which ingredients connect them: the bridge to a dish. Below that is what goes with only one of your choices.
What does the status on a pairing mean?
Every pairing starts as Inspiration: based on kitchen experience and professional sources, but not all tested by us. So always taste.
Tap a pairing and set it to Tested, Confirmed or Rejected, and add a note. That status is just for you and stays on your device.
Can I switch between English and Dutch?
The app follows your iPhone’s language: Dutch if your device is set to Dutch, English otherwise. In More → Language you can choose either language yourself. The app was first written in Dutch as Proeflepel; the English edition has the same content.
Where are my favourites and notes?
Only on this device. There is no account, so favourites and notes don’t carry over to your iPad or another iPhone by themselves. See the next question.
How do I move my notes to a new iPhone?
Go to More → Notes → Export and save the file, for example in Files or via AirDrop. On the new device, choose Import and select that file.
Favourites aren’t included in that export. If you restore a full backup of your old iPhone, favourites and notes usually come along.
Can I set the app to light or dark?
By default the app follows your iPhone. In More → Appearance you can choose always light or always dark.
How reliable are seasons, allergens and cooking temperatures?
Seasons apply to northwest Europe and are a guide: weather, growing method and origin shift them.
Allergens and diet labels are an indication per ingredient. Always check the packaging or ask your supplier, especially when cooking for someone with an allergy.
Core temperatures and cooking times come from kitchen practice. For food safety, follow the guidance of your national food safety authority, such as the Food Standards Agency in the UK, or your food hygiene plan in a professional kitchen.
An ingredient is missing or something is wrong
We’d love to hear it. Email us the ingredient and what isn’t right. New ingredients and corrections arrive in a later version of the app.
